From the Doublespeak EP
Written 2005!
Remixed in 2017
This is the oldest Two Sly Deuce song. I wrote the music on the edge of my bed in my room. I wrote the lyrics in a college math class. This was my attempt to write something that kept moving and felt like if Dream Theater and Van Halen were the same band. I like the solo. It was the first one I ever tried to write. I sat in my room for 7 and a half hours picking each note out, then learning it bit by bit. I had no real way to record or score it out (like Guitar Pro) that was reliable so I had to keep doing it until I was sure I would never forget it. The end of the solo evolved some over the years but I like the simplicity and note choice.
I actually had the individual tracks to work with! Daniel Hughes was literally in the band until like two weeks before Tom. It was so close.

Lyrics by Derrick Faith
Sleep sleep sleep
"You can sleep when you're dead"
All caught up, in your head
Trying to make it out right
Give me the world
Everything in my hands
So I can throw it away
And complain to your friends
Just putting it out there
In case you wanted to know
I don't mind waiting forever
But my patience has finally let go
I won't try to explain it
It's exactly like this
Give me the answer
Now what did I miss
No mind for conversation
No ounce of motivation
Abstract distractions
Nonchalant reactions
No time to think about it
'Cause the thought doesn't count
Ignore all the sights
But beware all the sounds
Stick to the path try not to stray at a glance
Living two lives when there's only once chance
Burning
Tumbling
Spiraling
Crumbing
Spiraling out of control
Blinding flash of light
Brings me back into reality
Information received
And the message is clear
Caught up in the moment
Hold on for a second
Wandering thoughts still
Drifting away
Failing concentration
Inspiration waiting
Prisoner to boredom
Slave to expectation
Derail the train of thought
Before it leaves the station
Trying to learn all this useless information
