Working Title: Crazy Friday Jam
This song was the hardest one to play out of all of them. There's a lot of tricky riffs, tempo and time signature changes, and complicated harmonies. I wrote the piano break and as Tom said, it's complicated in a lot of weird ways, but sounds simple. Which is why it was also very difficult to pull off live. That's what happens when you write a piano part and you aren't a piano player. He still managed to pull it off. I wrote this because Larry was dying. Some of the lyrics were also inspired by a woman I went to school with. She was fighting cancer at the time. We shared the same birthday and though I didn't know her all that well, her posts and updates about her battle with cancer moved me. When she passed, it made me re-examine a lot of things about my own mortality. Having lost Larry as well, this song is difficult for me to listen to.
In Memory of Caitlin Noon Pena
I have one more thing to say about Larry on this next song.

Martyr
Lyrics by Derrick Faith/Matt Seelye/Chris Leavell
Seeing inside yourself
We're leaving behind no one else
Seething, at this misfortune
Believing, I rule this extortion
Wondrous reprise
Thunderous demise
Silent savior, speaking actions on high
The exalted, no one, didn't care for the prize
Became a martyr in the blink of an eye
Struggling softly as we reach for the sky
Devoted depiction
Lethal prescription
Breaking the finish line
The seasons changing
Re-arranging
Forward support in time
Winner takes it all
We are the fallen
Angels coming home
We are not victims
Just survivors left in the cold
When it's lonely
And all you can count on
Is knowing that
All you've left
Is what you've yet to
Learn
In spite of this
We all see the rainbow in the oil spill
The tattered ruins and beauty in the many
Angles in the stars
The separate shapes
Watch close as I burn out brightly
What's ahead and whats beside me
Just wish I could hide
Meteor hurdling into the sea
Hope still clings but tigther is
Gravity
Sharp Descent
Fight the motions of the waves
It's just the way that you are
Trying to make sense of it all
Crying these proud tears
I can't be the only one?
A little too close to the sun
And when will I get my wings?
This fading scene
But I wouldn't change a single thing
It's just the way that we are
In every way that we're made
Shifting through the invisible contact
If we're not supposed to cry
Then why do we come built with tears
You can take my tomorrow away
But you leave me my
Dignity
Then it hits you from the bottom
And you go for a ride
The shallow stillness in your heart
Holds onto pride
Hard to face it
Summer springs but
Winter takes the fall
