about

From The EP Machine or Man?
Written 2008

1. I gave a copy of this song to Michael Biehn, KYLE REESE FROM THE TERMINATOR and Eddie Furlong, JOHN CONNOR, in person. Michael Biehn thought it was cool, Eddie Furlong I think ....thought I was crazy. I had gotten a chance to talk to Mr. Biehn for about 15 minutes and mentioned the song before I presented it. He asked, so I told him that he could go ahead and throw it in the trash, I was just happy to meet him and talk, and now, give him the song. He was super nice and polite.
2. The last two songs we were working on with Colin in the band were Vultures, and No Fate 2. Which was going to be a 20 minute epic. I still have archives of dozens of riffs and motifs.
3. This song was written in about the time it takes to play it. Jeff and I were auditioning for a new band together after we couldn't find a bass player (2008ish). We just kind of started writing it. The first two practices or so, we kept working on these love songs the singer wrote, followed by some covers (the singer wouldn't sing Runnin' With the Devil, because religious?). Jeff and I just started messing around and then the bass player, Bobby, started playing the second or third time the riff came around. I wrote some lyrics and sang it (the singer hadn't shown up). Jeff and I came up with an arrangement, then we taught Bobby and recorded it. All in about 20 minutes total. I have, in my possession, the very first full run through of the song. It's Jeff on an electric kit, me through a Peavey XXX (that wasn't mine) and Bobby on bass. Bobby was just kind of making it up as he went along, but there is a cool fill into a cool tapping part at the end. Oh yeah, the band didn't work out. This song single handedly inspired Jeff and I to keep trying on our own. This version was recorded right before Daniel left, but without him. Since Tom had recently joined, we had him record over top of it.

lyrics

Lyrics by Derrick Faith
White lite
Black city
Red eyes
Zero on me

No remorse
No pity
Can't lose it all
The price is too steep

Where did you come from?
Why are you here?
Dark silhouette
Shows you no fear

Drive away as fast as you can
Can't tell if he's machine or man
His judgement reigns down on your head
You better watch your back or you'll end up dead

Always trying to follow the road we don't belong
Can't see the way out you know you must be strong
Echoing resonates, a cartridge on the floor
Smoke in the room as he exits the door

Where did you come from?
Why are you here?
Dark silhouette
Shows you no fear

Drive away as fast as you can
Can't tell if he's machine or man
His judgement reigns down on your head
You better watch your back or you'll end up dead

Drive away as fast as you can!
