Working Title: Ridley
The very first thing I wrote with Tom. I went to his house off of Silver Street. The middle chords where the last vocals come in, he had already written. We added it later when we needed a flowy-dramatic section. The intro, verse, and ending were improvised one idea after the other between us. It was the most serendipitous writing experience I had had at that point. The solo was improvised while writing it (I have it on my two phones ago phone). They other guys fell right in. Lyrically, this has been pretty talked about with people. I have enjoyed over the years seeing different interpretations but now more than ever I just want to say:;
If you are struggling with your sexual orientation, gender identity, dysphoria, or suicidal thoughts and anxiety because of the aforementioned. LGBTQ, We love you. And we support you.
If I could only choose one Two Sly Deuce song to be remembered by, it'd be this one.
.....It was a pain to sing though, and later when we dropped it down lower, Chris sang it better than I ever did.
lyrics
by Derrick Faith and Matt Seelye
Too deep inside
Too many problems
Learning to harden
The outside in
Too far out
Make up your own
Problems
Learn to accept
The inside out
Forced to survive, or
Forced to conceal
Whimsical happenstance
So perfectly predetermined
Bled, Broken
From venom unspoken
Threatening lips
Forever poised
Ragged and whipped
No crime exists
Serrated solution
Now bite the bit
Forced to survive, or
Forced to conceal
Whimsical happenstance
So perfectly predetermined
Handed everything
Told to be good
Trying to please everyone
Putting on a smile as
you struggle onward
And face the changes
Around you
Pretending you’ve got it all figured out
Trying hard to hold on
But slipping through the cracks
Unspeakable guilt
For an uncertain future
Of unwarranted hatred
Placing your trust in a
Wavering image
But truth remains
